Willie Marlowe

My introduction to Jan’s work was at the Art Center of the Capital Region (then RCCA) in Troy NY in the early 80’s. It was an installation and performance in collaboration with Robert Durlak. I saw others later at different galleries in the capital area. When he had a collaborative project with a fax machine set up at Albany Center Gallery and invited people to fax something, I faxed a few visual poems and maybe some paintings printed on photocopy paper. As faxes came in, they drifted to the floor and soon there was a large pile. I had long admired Jan’s work and was glad to participate in a small way. The arts community here has lost a unique voice expressing a conceptual, eclectic, experimental vision. Artists and Jan’s many admirers appreciated each new work he presented — and looked forward to the next one. He will be greatly missed.
